The Power of Writing

“We do not grow absolutely, chronologically. We grow sometimes in one dimension, and not in another; unevenly. We grow partially. We are relative. We are mature in one realm, childish in another. The past, present, and future mingle and pull us backward, forward, or fix us in the present. We are made up of layers, cells, constellations.” —Anais Nin

Of course, Anais Nin spent her life writing about her layers. Are you exploring yours?

Working Together Toward a Common Cause: The Shaping of the Self

Working Together

We shape our self
to fit this world

and by the world
are shaped again.

The visible
and the invisible

working together
in common cause,

to produce
the miraculous.

I am thinking of the way
the intangible air

passed at speed
round a shaped wing

easily
holds our weight.

So may we, in this life
trust

to those elements
we have yet to see

or imagine,
and look for the true

shape of our own self,
by forming it well

to the great
intangibles about us.

Words of Wisdom

“Banish the word ‘struggle’ from your attitude and your vocabulary. All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration. We are the ones we have been waiting for.” — Hopi elders

“My Favorite Parenthetical Thought”

“(Contained
within cosmic
laws is the energy of grace,
which animates
what we call higher motivation
when a universal law
emerges in our psyche
during a decision making moment,
it comes
as a messenger of grace,
as well as psychic motivation.
In contrast,
traffic laws on the highway
are not ‘grace-filled.’
They are order-keepers
of the mundane
world that lack
the animation of grace.
However,
an intuitive ‘hit’
to slow down
for no conscious reason,
which then turns out
to be a life-saving act
because another car
was out-of-control,
is an act of grace
operating in the mundane
world.)”

Joseph Chilton Pearce: The Power and Purpose of Play

“Real learning takes place in the state children call play. The majority of learning adults think of is conditioning and that looks and feels like school. Play is nature’s agenda for optimum learning and performance at any age, any field, anytime. This is one of the best reviews of the importance of play you will find anywhere – Joseph Chilton Pearce at this best with Michael Mendizza.”

Take a Chance

And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. – Anais Nin
